Monthly Meetings - First Tuesday of each month @ 6:45 pm - Zilker Botanical Gardens
Monthly meetings are held at Zilker Botanical Garden Center, 2220 Barton Springs Road, Austin, Texas 78746. Monthly meetings are meant to be fun, not burdened with business details. After brief announcements of coming events and refreshments, the program is given. Our society brings in nationally recognized speakers that are experts in their areas. Usually, the speaker will bring plants to sell. Society members bring orchid plants in bloom to display on the show table and these are commented on after the program. A plant raffle is held after the plant table commentary. We also have two orchid auctions and two greenhouse tours each year, giving you more opportunities to buy and learn about orchids. Refreshments are provided and visitors are always welcome! Do come join us!

HO'TOS "Heart of Gold" 50th Anniversary Orchid Show & Sale - May 21 & 22, 2011
This year our 50th Anniversary Orchid Show and Sale, "Heart of Gold" was held at St. Edwards University Ragsdale Center, 3001 South Congress, Austin, Texas 78704 on May 21 & 22, 2011. Due to the success and attendance in recent years, our show had outgrown the Zilker Botanical Garden Space (sort of like our greenhouses that we thought were plenty big enough when we started). Entry to the show was $3 single, $5 couple and children 12 and under - free. Parking was also free.
As the society celebrates its 50th Anniversary, we were especially excited to have two esteemed speakers. Ron McHatton, from the American Orchid Society, presented "Orchids 101:for beginner to advanced grower" on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. and Tom Mirenda, Smithsonian Orchid Collection Specialist presented " The Mysteries of Orchid Pollination" on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. These speaker sessions were free and open to the public. Show entrance was not required and the feedback from attendees was very positive.
On Friday evening the orchid plant entries were judged by AOS accredited judges and trophies and ribbons were awarded. On Saturday and Sunday, visitors perused the winning selections and fabulous exhibits for themselves and many purchased new orchids for their collections, or in some cases, purchased their first Orchid. Sincere thanks go out to all who planned, manned and attended for making this event a spectacular one. It was a great anniversary party!

Heart O' Texas Orchid Society Spring Greenhouse Tour - April 16, 2011
This event is open to members and their guests. This year we visited 5 greenhouses from North Austin to Dripping Springs and had an absolutely gorgeous day for the event. Members and their guests met at the first location and spent about 45 minutes at each location, with the owners of each one sharing their experience and decision process for the choices made. Lunch in Wimberly following the event gave us more time to chat and talk about what we all learned and loved about what we saw. See a Photographic Journey of the day.
